National Games Overview

Sports have always occupied a special place in our hearts. Gujarat's government observed that the National Games had not been held in the previous seven years due to the epidemic and other circumstances. In order to provide opportunities to Indian athletes, the Gujarat government has taken a novel step and expressed its readiness to host the 36th National Games. Gujarat's CM, Shri Bhupendra Patel ji, expressed gratitude to the IOA (Indian Olympic Association) for quick acceptance of Gujarat’s proposal for hosting the National Games. IOA was grateful for the state government's proactive efforts to host the National Games.

Under the transformative leadership of PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji, Gujarat has laid the platform for the biggest sporting event for the players of India in just three months.

The 36th National Games marked a great opportunity for Gujarat to organize the biggest sporting event in the state's history. Nearly 7000 athletes from 28 Indian States, eight Union Territories, and the Indian Armed Forces' sports team competed for medals in 36 different sports. This is indeed a proud moment for the state.

After a seven-year hiatus, Gujarat has hosted India's prestigious multi-event sporting event. Gujarat arranged the 2022 Indian National Games from September 29 to October 12, 2022, with all of its zeal and commitment.
Gujarat has been equipped with top-notch sports infrastructure and a renewed enthusiasm towards sports is visible among the people of Gujarat. The state has done all that is appropriate to make the national games the finest they have ever been and has not left any stone unturned. Gujarat added a total of 36 games to the National Games due to its 36th edition, with an emphasis on indigenous sports. Games like Mallkhamba and Yogasana have made their debuts in the National Games, which have provided a great platform for the athletes of such games.
People of all ages eagerly engaged in a program of school and college activation held before the opening of the National Games. The gathering featured games like tug of war, sack race, and sitolia, which brought out more attendees and curious today's kids who had never played such games. People across the state have actively participated and discovered the joy of childhood while playing indigenous games.

The National Games were held across six cities in Gujarat - Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Bhavnagar.

The official logo of the 36th National Games represents an Asian lion head made up of sporting pictograms and the Statue of Unity. The official motto of the games is "Celebrating unity through sports". The games' mascot is Savaj the Asian lion.
The Saavaj mascot stands in for India's rich cultural legacy and signifies the quick rise of the country to prominence on the world stage.

With the theme of "Judega India, Jitega India," the anthem song of the 36th National Games was released to infuse new vigor, enthusiasm, and excitement among players.

The sporting extravaganza offered budding athletes the chance to get experience of competing in a multi-sport event before they represent the nation. The organisers have also made arrangements for the athletes to experience the rich culture of Gujarat, as the Games coincide with the festive Navratri season. The state has not only made its best effort from an organisational point of view but has also ensured that opportunity is given to its athletes by fielding the biggest contingent. The responses of the players about facilities reflect their excitement and satisfaction with the facilities provided to them. The country's sporting scenario will be impacted by the 36th National Games. Gujarat has achieved a new milestone by successfully hosting the national games.
